Dele Momodu Warns Adeleke Ahead of Osun Election

Veteran journalist and publisher Dele Momodu has urged Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to remain vigilant ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.

Momodu, in a message addressed to Adeleke, expressed concern over the possibility of political interference in the election and warned the governor not to take the process for granted.

In the message titled “My Candid Message to Governor Ademola Adeleke,” Momodu said he was writing to the governor “for posterity sake” and urged him to pay close attention to developments surrounding the election.

He alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could come under pressure from the Federal Government during the election, claiming that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was determined to secure victory in Osun State.

Momodu further alleged that the August 15 election could be used as a test for strategies ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“Let no one deceive you that INEC, under the complete control of President Bola Tinubu, will organise free, fair and credible election in Osun State next week,” Momodu wrote.

He claimed that the APC government was interested in using the Osun election as a “dress rehearsal” for the 2027 presidential election.

However, Momodu did not provide specific evidence in his message to substantiate the allegation that INEC would be controlled by the President or that the election would be manipulated.

The journalist also claimed that he had received warnings from individuals within the APC about what could happen during the election, although he did not identify the sources or provide details of the alleged warnings.

According to him, Adeleke should prepare for “any eventuality” and remain focused as the election approaches.

Momodu also encouraged Adeleke to remain committed to his faith and the work his administration has carried out in Osun State.

“Please, hold on tightly to God as you’ve always been. We are proud of the uncommon work you’ve done, and doing,” he said.

The message comes amid growing political tension in Osun State as the major political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the governorship election.

Adeleke, who is seeking another term in office, is facing the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, alongside candidates from other political parties.

The election has attracted increased national attention, with political figures and public personalities expressing concerns about the credibility and security of the process.

Adeleke had earlier called on President Tinubu to ensure that the election is free and fair, warning that Osun residents would resist any attempt to manipulate their votes.

The governor has also urged security agencies and political actors to allow voters to freely choose their preferred candidate without intimidation.

The APC, however, has maintained that it is focused on winning the election through legitimate political mobilisation and campaigning. Its candidate, Oyebamiji, has been campaigning across the state, promising voters an alternative to the current administration.

With the election just days away, attention is now focused on INEC, security agencies, political parties and other stakeholders to ensure that the process is peaceful and credible.

Momodu’s message adds to the growing debate over the integrity of the Osun election, but his allegations remain his personal claims and have not, in the message, been backed by independent evidence.

The final outcome will ultimately be determined by voters across Osun State when they cast their ballots on August 15.
