PHOTOS: NDLEA Destroys Illicit Drugs Worth N301bn in Lagos, Warns Traffickers

 The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 329,865.585 kilogrammes of illicit drugs valued at an estimated N301.05 billion in Lagos.

The destruction exercise was carried out on Monday at Navy Town, Ojo, following an order of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

According to a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, the destroyed drugs comprised substances seized in concluded cases that were not contested, as well as abandoned consignments recovered by the agency.

The Lagos Command accounted for the largest portion of the seized substances, with 246,864.535 kilogrammes recovered between April 2025 and May 2026.

The remaining 83,001.05 kilogrammes were seized by the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tincan and Apapa Strategic Commands, Marine Command and a special operations unit operating in Lagos.

The substances destroyed included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis varieties such as Canadian Loud and skunk, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, other opioids and khat leaves.

Speaking during the exercise, NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa said the destruction demonstrated the government’s determination to prevent illicit drug networks from sustaining their operations.

Marwa warned that the consequences of drug trafficking went beyond the substances themselves, noting that the illegal trade affects families, communities, public health and national security.

He further linked the illicit drug trade to organised crime, terrorism and violent extremism, stressing that intercepting large consignments of drugs was therefore an important part of Nigeria’s broader security efforts.

The NDLEA chairman also warned drug traffickers against operating with a sense of impunity, as the agency continues to intensify efforts to disrupt the supply and distribution of illicit substances across the country.

The destruction of the drugs represents one of the agency’s major disposal exercises involving seized and abandoned narcotics in Lagos.

The NDLEA said its operations would continue as part of efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and protect communities from the consequences of illicit drug abuse and distribution.

A man has reportedly survived a terrifying road accident after the car he was travelling in split into two during a violent crash.

Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle broke apart completely, with the front half landing several metres away from the rear section.

Despite the devastating damage to the vehicle, the occupant was reportedly pulled from the wreckage alive, leaving many witnesses astonished by what they described as a miraculous escape.

Oyo Takes Delivery of Two Surveillance Aircraft to Strengthen Security Operations

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced the arrival of two DA42 MNG aircraft procured by his administration to enhance security surveillance and reconnaissance operations across the state.

Sharing photographs of the newly delivered aircraft, Governor Makinde said the planes would play a key role in improving intelligence gathering and supporting efforts to tackle insecurity in Oyo State.

According to the governor, the aircraft are specifically intended for security surveillance and reconnaissance missions, a move aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture through improved aerial monitoring.

Makinde also expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for its support throughout the procurement process.

He wrote:

“Today, we took delivery of the two DA42 MNG aircraft procured by our administration for security surveillance and reconnaissance missions in Oyo State.

We are grateful to the officers of the Nigerian Air Force who have provided support and guidance throughout this process, and we look forward to continued collaboration on the security of our dear State and nation.”

The DA42 MNG is a twin-engine surveillance aircraft designed for intelligence, reconnaissance and aerial observation missions. It is widely used by security agencies and governments for border patrol, disaster response, environmental monitoring and public safety operations.

The development comes as state governments across Nigeria continue to invest in technology and security infrastructure to complement the efforts of federal security agencies in addressing insecurity.

Governor Makinde has repeatedly maintained that strengthening intelligence gathering and surveillance remains a critical part of his administration’s strategy to protect lives and property across Oyo State.

The presidential candidate said his court appearance would not deter him from speaking out against government policies, insisting that Nigerians have a responsibility to oppose what he called a failed system.

“We owe ourselves a duty to resist oppression and end this failed system,” he added.
