Oworonshoki in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State has welcomed a new monarch following the presentation of the Staff of Office to Oba Kabir Bashir Adesegun as the Olu Oko Baba Agba.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, formally recognised Oba Adesegun as a traditional ruler in the community, with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presenting the Staff of Office.

The event attracted traditional rulers, government officials, community leaders, family members, friends and residents who gathered to celebrate the new monarch.

Oba Adesegun received the Staff of Office amid cheers and jubilation, with residents taking to the streets to celebrate the occasion.

The ceremony was attended by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, as well as traditional rulers from Kosofe and neighbouring communities.

Among those present was the Onikosi, alongside other prominent traditional rulers within the local government.

The development adds another traditional leadership position to the Oworonshoki community, which already has the Oloworo of Oworonshoki as its existing king.

With Oba Adesegun now formally recognised as the Olu Oko Baba Agba, Oworonshoki has two recognised traditional leadership positions, with the new monarch expected to play his role within the scope of his traditional title.

The presentation of the Staff of Office also provides formal recognition from the Lagos State Government for Oba Adesegun to carry out his responsibilities.

Speaking on the significance of the occasion, community members expressed support for the new monarch and called for peace, unity and development across Oworonshoki.

The installation is expected to strengthen community leadership and encourage greater cooperation among traditional institutions, residents and government authorities in the area.

An 18-year-old Sierra Leonean, Alimatu Dumbuya, is using her platform as a finalist for Miss Teenager Netherlands 2026 to raise awareness about racism, discrimination, equality and inclusion.

Dumbuya recently spoke at a concert about her experience as a finalist and the opportunity to use her voice to address issues affecting people who face discrimination.

“Being able to use my voice and spread awareness about racism and discrimination means so much to me,” she said.

Beyond the pageant, Dumbuya is the founder of Beyond Labels Community, an initiative focused on encouraging conversations around racism, discrimination and equality.

Through the initiative, she promotes respect and encourages people to speak up when they experience or witness discriminatory treatment.

For Dumbuya, the pageant represents more than a chance to win a crown. She sees the competition as an opportunity to celebrate her Sierra Leonean heritage while promoting values she believes can inspire other young people.

Proud of her roots, the young Sierra Leonean hopes her journey will encourage others to embrace their identity, speak confidently and pursue their ambitions despite the challenges they may face.

“My roots are my strength, my voice is my power, and my purpose is to inspire others to stand proudly in who they are,” Dumbuya said.

Her participation in Miss Teenager Netherlands 2026 has therefore become an opportunity for her to combine her personal ambitions with advocacy for equality and inclusion.

Man Claims He Was Jailed at 13, Freed at 60 After Spending 47 Years in Prison

A Nigerian man has shared a heartbreaking account of how he allegedly spent 47 years in prison after being detained as a 13-year-old over an incident involving a damaged vehicle in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The man, who said he is now 78 years old, claimed he was arrested while hawking sugarcane for his father and was never properly tried before being transferred from one correctional facility to another for decades.

According to his account, he was living in Maiduguri and attended school while helping his father, a sugarcane farmer, sell sugarcane after classes.

He recalled that on the day his ordeal allegedly began, he accidentally knocked off the headlight of a parked car while pushing a wheelbarrow loaded with sugarcane in search of shade from the scorching afternoon sun.

Rather than fleeing, he said he waited at the scene for the vehicle’s owner to return.

“I wanted to run, but my conscience wouldn’t let me. So I stood there waiting,” he recalled.

The man alleged that the owner of the vehicle, who later identified himself as a police officer, beat him before taking him to a police station, where he was locked in a cell.

He claimed he remained in police custody for about a month before being taken to court, where the matter was not heard. According to him, he was subsequently remanded in prison.

He further alleged that he remained in custody for years without trial, serving in prison work units before being transferred between correctional facilities in several states, including Bauchi, Ibadan and Kano.

According to the account, he eventually became known among inmates as “Baba” after spending decades behind bars.

The man claimed his case only came to light when a state governor visited the correctional facility shortly before leaving office and asked him why he was imprisoned.

He alleged that an investigation followed, leading authorities to discover that the police officer who had ordered his detention had become a traditional ruler.

According to the account, the governor later granted him amnesty and assisted him with rehabilitation after his release.

The former inmate said the traditional ruler allegedly offered to compensate him with a house and other support, but he declined, saying no material gift could restore the decades he lost in prison.

“He took my youth. He took my future. He took my life,” he said in the emotional account.

She Rented an Apartment Just to Beat Me, Ibadan Lash Technician Alleges Planned Attack Over Boyfriend

An Ibadan-based lash technician has shared a disturbing account of how what appeared to be a routine beauty appointment allegedly turned into a carefully planned assault after she was lured to a rented apartment by a woman posing as a client.

In an emotional video circulating on social media, the beauty entrepreneur said the incident began when she received a message on Snapchat from a woman requesting a lash appointment.

According to her, the woman initially asked whether she was based in Lekki, Lagos. She replied that she was in Ibadan but would be travelling to Lagos the following week, even pleading with the prospective client not to patronise another lash technician.

“Last week, the girl texted me on Snapchat. She asked for my location and wanted to know if I was in Lekki. I told her I was in Ibadan. I even begged her not to take her money elsewhere because I would be in Lekki the following week and could do her lashes then.”

The woman, however, reportedly insisted she was already in Ibadan and wanted the service immediately.

The lash technician said the client requested a customised lash set, prompting her to ask for the usual advance payment before confirming the appointment.

Although she noticed that the Snapchat profile appeared unusual, with no photos or personal information, she said she dismissed her concerns after receiving half of the agreed payment.

“When I checked the girl’s Snapchat profile, everything was blank. There were no pictures at all. She later sent half of the payment through POS transfer, and I even addressed her respectfully because I believed she was a genuine customer.”

She said the client stressed that the appointment had to happen quickly because she was travelling back, prompting her to accept a home service appointment at an apartment in the Bodija area of Ibadan.

According to the lash technician, nothing initially suggested she was walking into danger.

On arrival, she said she was welcomed into the apartment, offered a bottle of water and asked to make herself comfortable before setting up her equipment.

As someone who regularly records parts of her home service appointments with clients’ permission, she said she attempted to ask whether she could film the session.

“When I entered, she opened the door for me. She even gave me water to drink. I asked, ‘Which one of you is doing the lashes?’ She replied that she was the one.”

However, she claimed the atmosphere suddenly changed.

Instead of preparing for the beauty session, the women allegedly began questioning her about their relationship with a man she barely knew.

The lash technician alleged that she was accused of having dealings with the woman’s boyfriend because the man had once sent her money through Snapchat as encouragement for her hard work.

According to her, she had no idea that the prospective client was the man’s girlfriend.

She alleged that moments later, the questioning escalated into physical violence as the woman and another person in the apartment allegedly attacked her.

The beauty entrepreneur described the incident as a premeditated setup, claiming the apartment had been rented solely to lure and assault her.

“She collected an apartment to beat me. She and her friend were discussing before I entered, like they didn’t even know where to start from.”

Her emotional account has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the alleged incident and warning business owners who provide home services to exercise greater caution when accepting appointments from unfamiliar clients.

Several social media users have also urged beauty professionals and other mobile service providers to verify new customers thoroughly, share their locations with trusted relatives or colleagues, and consider taking additional safety precautions before honouring appointments at private residences or short-let apartments.

“Military Arrested Our Families, So You Can Go” – Rescued Oyo Teacher Reveals Why Kidnappers Released Them

One of the teachers rescued after spending 56 days in captivity has shared a chilling account of how the abducted pupils and teachers were finally released, revealing that the kidnappers let them go after claiming security forces had arrested some of their family members.

Mr. Zacheaus Olatunde, one of the survivors of the May 15, 2026 abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, said the terrorists gathered them and announced they would be released.

According to him, the kidnappers told the captives that the military had arrested members of their families and that they were willing to exchange the hostages for their relatives.

“They told us to go willingly so that their families, who had been arrested by the military, would also be released,” Olatunde recounted.

He said the terrorists did not abandon them in the forest. Instead, they directed them on the exact route to follow.

“They told us we would cross two streams, and after the second stream we would meet soldiers waiting to receive us,” he said.

Olatunde explained that many of the children were already too weak to walk after nearly two months in captivity.

“I carried many of the little children because they no longer had the strength to walk. After trekking for some time, we eventually met the security personnel waiting for us.”

While recounting the ordeal, Olatunde also revealed how two of his colleagues, Mr. Michael Oyedokun and Deacon John Olaleye, were brutally killed by the terrorists.

According to him, the trouble for Mr. Michael Oyedokun began on the first day they arrived in the forest when the kidnappers ordered everyone to surrender their mobile phones.

Although the other victims complied, one of the terrorists later discovered a phone in Oyedokun’s pocket while he was being transported on a motorcycle.

When questioned, the teacher reportedly explained that he did not hear the instruction to drop his phone.

The explanation did not save him.

Olatunde said one of the terrorists slapped Oyedokun before reporting the incident to their General Commander, who became enraged.

“The General Commander said, ‘If I don’t kill anyone, I must kill this man for disobeying my order.’”

The following day, the kidnappers came for Mr. Oyedokun.

“They dragged him away while he cried and begged for mercy. We heard him shouting from a distance, but after some time, the noise stopped completely.”

Olatunde said one of the younger terrorists, believed to be about 17 or 18 years old, later returned dancing and singing to celebrate the teacher’s death.

Weeks later, tragedy struck again.

According to Olatunde, Deacon John Olaleye was taken away and killed on June 7 after the kidnappers accused the military of moving too close to their camp despite earlier warnings.

“They never killed anyone in our presence. They always took them to another location. We only heard their cries before everything became silent,” he said.

Describing life inside the terrorists’ camp, Olatunde said the captives were chained and handcuffed throughout the 56 days. They were blindfolded most of the time and had to beg before they were allowed to use the toilet.

He said the terrorists constantly moved them from one location to another, often beating the adults whenever the children made mistakes.

“They sometimes hit us with guns. We, the adults, usually suffered for whatever the children did.”

He also disclosed that the kidnappers forbade Christian prayers.

“If they saw us praying or calling on Jesus, they beat us mercilessly.”

According to him, the terrorists never joked with their own religious practices.

“They prayed regularly and recited the Quran every day without fail.”

Olatunde further claimed that throughout their captivity, the kidnappers insisted they were not interested in collecting ransom but wanted some of their arrested members to be released.

He said conditions in the camp only improved after the terrorists learned that some of their own family members had been arrested by security forces.

“After Deacon John Olaleye was killed, they suddenly changed. They started treating us better because they heard their families had been arrested.”

He added that on the day of their release, the kidnappers even offered them an opportunity to bathe before leaving.

“We refused because all we wanted was to leave the forest as quickly as possible.”

After arriving safely in Ibadan, Olatunde said military officers showed him photographs of suspected kidnappers.

“I was able to identify one of them. The officers told us they had arrested eight of the terrorists while others had been neutralised.”

Despite expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal, Olatunde said the rescued victims still mourn the loss of the two teachers who never made it home.

“We thank God that we survived, but our joy is incomplete because Mr. Michael Oyedokun and Deacon John Olaleye did not return with us.”
