Adeleke Endorsed Tinubu to Continue Destroying Nigeria - Sowore

 

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, over his renewed endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

Sowore’s reaction followed Adeleke’s declaration that he remained committed to supporting Tinubu for a second term after the Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke had earlier expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as a free and fair election, before reaffirming his endorsement of the President ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.

Reacting in a post on X, Sowore accused the Osun governor of backing what he described as a failed administration.

“Governor @AAdeleke_01 has endorsed the failed Tinubu @officialABAT presidency to continue its mission of destroying Nigeria beyond 2027,” Sowore wrote.

The AAC presidential candidate also alleged that the political relationship between the Adeleke and Tinubu families was largely motivated by personal and political interests.

“At the end of the day, the Adelekes and the Tinubus are looking out for their own personal and political interests, watching each other’s backs, protecting their political fortunes, and safeguarding their loot.”

Sowore further connected Adeleke’s endorsement to the violence recorded during the Osun governorship election, expressing sympathy for those who lost their lives during the electoral process.

“I feel sorry for the nearly 50 people whose lives were wasted in election violence during the #OsunDecides, all so these corrupt political families could prove how much they love and protect one another,” he added.

The AAC candidate also criticised Davido, who has been a prominent supporter of his uncle, Governor Adeleke, during the Osun political contest.

Sowore referred to the singer as a “political scion” of the Adeleke family and suggested that Davido could eventually return to his previous political associations.

“Even their lousy political scion, @davido, will soon return to his vomit, the #CityBoys that’s assuming he ever truly left it in the first place.”

Sowore’s comments add to a series of heated political exchanges surrounding the aftermath of the Osun governorship election, which saw Adeleke secure another term in office.

While Adeleke has now reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition, Sowore remains one of the President’s outspoken critics and is expected to continue campaigning against the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 election.

Lagos State lawmaker, James Faleke, has fired back at Nigerian music star Davido after the singer accused him of allegedly pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to alter the result of the Osun State governorship election.

The exchange occurred against the backdrop of the closely contested election, which saw Governor Ademola Adeleke secure another term in office after defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

Davido had accused Faleke of attempting to influence the electoral process during the collation of results on Saturday.

In a post on X, the singer directly addressed the lawmaker, writing: “Hon. James Faleke, stop putting pressure on INEC to change Osun election result. Respect the wishes of Osun people. We don’t want Oyetola and AMBO.”

Faleke responded on Sunday, dismissing the allegation and making it clear that he had travelled to Osun to support the APC candidate.

The lawmaker also took a swipe at Davido over his support for Adeleke, pointing out that the singer was backing his uncle’s political camp.

“I came to Osun to support my party’s candidate, while you supported your uncle’s party (Accord),” Faleke said.

He rejected the suggestion that he had the ability to influence INEC, insisting that the electoral body could not be controlled by him or anyone else.

“INEC is a body that can’t be influenced by me or anyone else,” he added.

Faleke ended his response with a pointed message to the singer.

“Face your music while we face our politics,” he said.

The political exchange came shortly after the announcement of the final results, with Adeleke emerging victorious with 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji of the APC polled 444,815 votes.

Despite the earlier disagreement, Faleke later congratulated Adeleke on his victory, while also commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and INEC over what he described as a peaceful election.

The clash between Faleke and Davido has added a celebrity-political dimension to the aftermath of the Osun election, following weeks of intense campaigning and heated exchanges between supporters of rival political parties.

With the election now concluded, attention is shifting towards governance and the ability of the political camps to move beyond the bitter contest and accept the outcome.

Adeleke Condemns Arrest of Osun PDP Chairman, Calls for Immediate Release

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the reported arrest of the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, shortly after he cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election.

In a statement issued on Saturday, August 15, by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the arrest as an attempt to intimidate political supporters and called for Bisi’s immediate release.

According to the governor, Bisi was allegedly arrested at his residence in Ilesa after returning from his polling unit where he had voted. Adeleke said the PDP chairman was subsequently taken to an undisclosed location, while no reason had been made public for the arrest.

The governor alleged that the incident was part of a broader attempt to prevent his supporters and party members from monitoring the collation of election results across the state.

Adeleke further alleged that security agencies were being used to undermine the electoral process and claimed that the arrests could provide room for manipulation at various collation centres.

“This is the biggest assault on democracy, and I urge everyone involved in this desperate attempt to upturn the will of our people through the use of state institutions,” the governor said.

He called for the immediate release of Bisi and other political detainees allegedly arrested across Osun State.

According to Adeleke, elections should allow citizens to freely choose their preferred candidates without intimidation, threats or force.

Meanwhile, in a separate message on Saturday, Adeleke commended Osun residents for turning out in large numbers to participate in the governorship election.

The governor said the safety of voters remained paramount as the process moved from voting to the collation of results.

“The safety and protection of our people is paramount,” Adeleke said.

He urged security agencies deployed for the election to remain vigilant during the collation of results from polling units to wards and local government areas.

Adeleke also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain the highest standards of integrity throughout the collation and declaration process.

“Democracy is at its strongest when we honor the wishes of our people and protect the sanctity of their votes,” he said.

The governor urged Osun residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to the democratic process as the results are collated.

“Let the people’s will prevail,” Adeleke added.

The allegations surrounding Bisi’s arrest have not been independently established, and the circumstances surrounding the reported arrest remained unclear at the time of publication.

Tinubu Urges Peaceful Osun Election, Says Every Vote Must Count

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on residents of Osun State to participate peacefully in Saturday’s governorship election, urging all stakeholders to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

In a statement ahead of the August 15 poll, Tinubu called on political parties, security agencies, electoral officials and voters to play their part in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, free and fair election.

The President said he had directed the Inspector-General of Police and the heads of security agencies deployed to Osun to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials and election materials throughout the election.

He stressed that no Nigerian should be prevented from exercising their constitutional right to vote because of fear, intimidation or violence.

“Every citizen must be able to exercise his or her right to vote without fear, intimidation or violence. There must be no room for anyone seeking to disrupt the process or undermine the peace of Osun State,” Tinubu said.

The President also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct the election professionally and with integrity, stressing the importance of ensuring that every lawful vote is properly recorded.

“Every vote must count. Every lawful vote must be properly recorded,” he said.

Tinubu described the Osun governorship election as the final off-cycle governorship election before the 2027 general elections, saying it provides INEC with another opportunity to demonstrate its preparedness and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.

The President appealed directly to Osun residents to come out and exercise their civic responsibility peacefully, while respecting the choices of other voters.

He reminded voters that elections should be about ideas and service rather than violence.

“Elections are contests of ideas and service, and should never cost the life of any Nigerian,” he said.

Tinubu said the Federal Government had put measures in place to support a peaceful election and reiterated that the responsibility of government was to protect both the electoral process and the people.

He maintained that the ultimate decision belongs to the people of Osun State and urged all political actors to respect the outcome of the election, regardless of which candidate emerges victorious.

“Whatever that decision may be, it must be respected,” the President said.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, with voters expected to choose the governor who will lead the state for the next four years.

Davido Mocks APC Rally in Osun, Says ‘You’ll Lose for the Third Time’

Afrobeats star Davido has reacted to the All Progressives Congress (APC) mega rally in Osogbo ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

Former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, had welcomed the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma and other APC governors and party leaders to the state for the campaign rally.

In a post shared ahead of the event, Oyetola described the gathering as an opportunity for APC members and supporters to come together for what he called a peaceful and successful campaign.

He welcomed Akpabio, Uzodimma, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, other governors and party stakeholders to Osun State.

However, Davido, who has been actively campaigning for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, dismissed the significance of the APC gathering in a brief but pointed response.

Reacting to Oyetola’s post, the singer wrote:

“If you like gather Jesus 12 disciples o ma LULE for the 3rd time!!!!!”

Davido’s comment was a reference to the previous electoral defeats of the APC camp in Osun and his confidence that Governor Adeleke would retain the governorship seat.

The singer has become increasingly vocal in the Osun election campaign, publicly backing Adeleke and calling for a peaceful and credible election.

His latest comment comes amid an increasingly heated campaign season, with APC and Adeleke’s supporters trading criticism as the election draws closer.

Sowore Leads AAC Campaign Walk in Osogbo, Says Osun Is Ready for Change

Omoyele Sowore has joined supporters of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Osogbo, Osun State, in a fresh campaign mobilisation for the party’s governorship candidate, Olajide Esan.

Sowore shared images and a message from the campaign on Wednesday, August 12, saying the streets of Osogbo were filled with supporters who turned out to back Esan ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

According to Sowore, the turnout reflected what he described as a growing desire among Osun residents for a different political direction.

“Today in Osogbo, Osun State, the streets came alive as we turned out in force to give our powerful support to the AAC gubernatorial candidate, Olajide Esan,” Sowore said.

He described the atmosphere as energetic and said the campaign was taking the party’s message of what he called “revolutionary change” directly to residents.

“The energy was electric, the enthusiasm was unmistakable, and the message from the people was clear to the effect that Osun is ready for a new direction!” he added.

The latest mobilisation comes just three days before the August 15 Osun governorship election, which has generated intense political activity across the state.

Esan, a 39-year-old entrepreneur and geographer, emerged as the AAC governorship candidate in December 2025. He is contesting alongside his running mate, Bello Muideen Yekeen. The Independent National Electoral Commission’s final list of candidates included Esan among those cleared to contest the election. 

In recent days, Esan has continued to campaign around a message of citizen-centred governance, arguing that political leadership should serve the people rather than concentrate decision-making in the hands of politicians.

At a recent engagement in Osogbo, the AAC candidate said governance should return to the people and that leaders should be accountable to citizens. 

The campaign has also positioned Esan as an alternative to the major political parties contesting the election.

The AAC candidate has previously criticised rival candidates over their absence from a media-organised governorship debate, arguing that voters deserve the opportunity to hear candidates explain their plans and answer questions about the future of the state. 

Sowore’s appearance in Osogbo therefore adds another layer to the final stage of the AAC campaign. The activist and politician has remained one of the most prominent voices associated with the party since its formation, and his presence is expected to boost the party’s final mobilisation efforts.

In his message, Sowore insisted that the movement would continue taking its message directly to voters rather than relying solely on conventional political campaigning.

“We are taking the message of revolutionary change directly to the streets and to the people,” he said.

He also declared that there would be no retreat from the campaign.

“The movement is growing, and there is NO GOING BACK!”

The AAC campaign has consistently used its “Take It Back” message as part of its political identity, with Sowore calling on supporters to mobilise around demands for fundamental political and economic change.

The Osun election is expected to be closely watched because of the number of prominent political figures and parties involved. The contest includes incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, ADC candidate Najeem Salaam and other candidates, including AAC’s Olajide Esan.

Osun Lawmaker Gives Senator Fadahunsi 30 Days to Resign Over Alleged Inciting Comments

An Osun State House of Assembly member, Kanmi Ajibola, has demanded the resignation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged inciting comments concerning members of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Ajibola, who represents Oriade State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, issued the demand through his solicitor, Ekene Amadi, giving Fadahunsi 30 days to resign from the National Assembly or face possible legal action.

Fadahunsi represents Osun East Senatorial District and has recently come under scrutiny following a viral video in which he was alleged to have directed supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attack or kill members of the opposition Accord Party during the electoral process.

The senator has denied the allegation, maintaining that his comments were taken out of context.

However, Ajibola, in a letter titled “Resign now, you have a killer’s mind and lacking strength of character for public office representation,” accused the senator of making statements capable of encouraging violence against political opponents.

The letter was also copied to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Ajibola said he and Fadahunsi were originally members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and came from the same constituency before their political paths diverged.

According to him, Fadahunsi later defected to the APC, while he moved to the Accord Party.

He further claimed that he and other PDP members had contributed financially and politically to Fadahunsi’s electoral victories in the 2019 and 2023 elections.

The lawmaker alleged that Fadahunsi had been making threats against members of the Accord Party since October 2025, claiming that opposition supporters would face arrest and possible violence following the 2026 governorship election.

The letter also alleged that several Accord members had been arrested or detained between June 1 and August 10, while some were allegedly killed.

These allegations, however, remain claims contained in Ajibola’s letter and have not been independently established.

Ajibola further alleged that on August 11, just four days before the governorship election, Fadahunsi directed political supporters to attack Accord members during political activities in Ilesa.

He described the alleged conduct as a serious violation of the responsibilities attached to Fadahunsi’s position as a senator.

Ajibola argued that the senator’s alleged statements had undermined public confidence in his ability to represent the people of Osun East, insisting that he was no longer fit to remain in the National Assembly.

“Fadahunsi is no longer fit to continue representing Osun East in the Senate,” the letter stated.

The assembly member therefore demanded that Fadahunsi resign within 30 days of receiving the letter and withdraw from future public service.

He warned that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings against the senator.

The development comes at a tense period in Osun State, with political parties intensifying their campaigns and trading accusations ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The controversy surrounding Fadahunsi has also attracted the attention of the Osun State Police Command, which recently summoned the senator over his alleged comments concerning Accord members.

The police invitation followed widespread reactions to the viral video in which the senator was accused of telling APC supporters to “kill” members of the rival party if they encountered them during the electoral process.

Fadahunsi has maintained that he was quoted out of context, while authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the remarks.

With the election only days away, the latest demand by Ajibola is likely to add to the growing political tension in Osun, where rival parties have repeatedly called for a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Political actors and security agencies have continued to urge supporters to avoid violence and allow voters to freely exercise their constitutional right to choose their preferred candidates.

For Ajibola, however, the issue goes beyond political disagreement. His letter argues that comments capable of being interpreted as threats against opposition supporters should carry consequences, particularly when made by an elected public official.

The 30-day resignation demand now places additional pressure on Fadahunsi as the senator faces both political criticism and police scrutiny over the controversial comments.

The senator’s response to the resignation demand and whether Ajibola will proceed with legal action if the ultimatum expires remain to be seen.
