US Secret Service Investigates Iranian Video Appearing to Threaten Barron Trump

The United States Secret Service has confirmed that it is aware of a video aired by Iran’s state broadcaster that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, the youngest son of US President Donald Trump.

The nearly three-minute video, reportedly broadcast over the weekend by Iranian state media outlet IRIB, featured an English-language graphic asking, “Where to kill Barron Trump?!” and displayed locations where the president’s son is publicly known to spend time, including Trump Tower in New York.

Toward the end of the video, the narrator appeared to refer to a $10 million reward, saying people were “eagerly waiting to receive our $10 million reward.”

The development has prompted attention from US security authorities, with the Secret Service saying it investigates any material that could be interpreted as a threat against people under its protection.

“The US Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring told CNN.

He added that the agency would not discuss specific protective intelligence matters for operational security reasons.

According to a US federal law enforcement source cited by CNN, the broadcast forms part of a wider campaign of videos from Iran targeting President Trump and members of his family.

The source said some of the material has reportedly contained information about the movements of members of the Trump family, alongside suggestions for attacks against them.

Security operations around protected individuals are continuously adjusted based on information gathered by the Secret Service, other US agencies, local law enforcement and international partners, the source said.

The video comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran and a history of threats against President Trump following the 2020 US drone strike that killed senior Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.

Iranian hardline media have previously published threats directed at President Trump and other members of his family. However, the latest video appears to be the first reported instance in which Barron Trump has been specifically singled out.

Trump has previously acknowledged threats against his life linked to Iran.

Speaking at the NATO summit in Turkey in July, the president said he believed he had been targeted and described those behind the threats as “evil, sick people.”

US authorities have for years warned about potential Iranian efforts to retaliate against Trump over the killing of Soleimani.

The latest development has therefore placed renewed focus on the security of the president and his family, as US authorities assess the nature and credibility of the threat contained in the Iranian broadcast.
