AAC Seeks Tinubu’s Approval to Hold 2027 Campaign Council Inauguration at Presidential Villa

Letter from the African Action Congress to President Bola Tinubu requesting approval to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa.

The African Action Congress (AAC) has written to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, seeking approval to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, on November 11, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the AAC also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the event from within Nigeria and abroad.

The party said the request was made in the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties.

According to the letter addressed to the President, the AAC argued that granting its request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and equal access to public institutions, regardless of political affiliation.

The party cited arrangements it said had reportedly been extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, arguing that its request should receive comparable consideration.

The proposed inauguration is expected to form part of the AAC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party also asked the Presidency to provide information on the procedures and conditions required for approval of the request.

The letter was signed by Ikpeminoghena on behalf of the AAC, which expressed hope that the President would give the request favourable consideration.

APC Campaign Council Accuses Peter Obi of Making Unsupported Claims About 2023 Election

APC Presidential Campaign Council spokesperson Dele Alake criticises Peter Obi over his claim about the 2023 presidential election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has criticised Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi over his claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, accusing him of making assertions without supporting evidence.

In a press statement issued on October 9, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, the council described Obi’s comments during a recent BBC interview as troubling and questioned his continued insistence that he won the election.

During the interview, Obi reportedly said: “I don’t like going back to the past. I won the last election. There’s no evidence, but I won the election. Everything is not based on evidence.”

Reacting to the statement, the APC campaign council argued that a presidential aspirant should support claims about an election with verifiable facts rather than unsubstantiated assertions.

The council also referred to the official outcome of the 2023 presidential election, maintaining that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with his victory subsequently upheld by the election tribunal and the Supreme Court.

The statement further defended Tinubu’s administration, crediting it with implementing economic reforms, expanding infrastructure, supporting businesses and young people, and making investments in education and healthcare.

The APC campaign council also renewed its call for Obi to honour an alleged earlier pledge to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if it were established that his administration in Anambra State had left behind liabilities.

The council said it based its position on what it described as established financial records from Anambra State.

The statement comes amid political exchanges between supporters of the ruling APC and opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election.

Former Lagos AAC Chairman Appointed Director in Sowore-Magashi 2027 Campaign Council

Ayoyinka Oni, former Lagos AAC chairman, announces his appointment to the Sowore-Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
Ayoyinka Oni says he will serve as Director of Policy, Strategy and Political Affairs in the Sowore-Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

Ayoyinka Oni, the immediate past chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Lagos State, has announced his appointment as Director of Policy, Strategy and Political Affairs in the Sowore-Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

Oni disclosed the appointment in a statement in which he described the role as a privilege and reaffirmed his commitment to the campaign to take Nigeria back.

“The work to take NIGERIA back never stopped, but again I say, let us begin,” he said.

The former Lagos AAC chairman also called on Nigerians, particularly young people, to participate actively in the 2027 general election and support the presidential ambition of Omoyele Sowore under the AAC.

Oni argued that the distribution of money, contracts and other opportunities by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) could not benefit the majority of Nigerians, urging those who feel excluded to join efforts to bring about political change.

He further called on young Nigerians to exercise their voting rights, claiming that their participation could determine the outcome of the election.

“Are you going to stand there or sleep there while some dull old people and hungry young people determine the trajectory of your life for the next four years and beyond? Your answer should be an affirmative NO,” Oni said.

He maintained that active participation in the electoral process could help Nigerians challenge vote-buying, political intimidation and electoral manipulation.

Oni concluded by urging supporters to mobilise behind the Sowore-Magashi 2027 campaign, using the slogans “Let us take Nigeria back” and “Vote AAC.”

Atiku: If You Elect Me in 2027, I Will End Election Rigging in Nigeria

Atiku Abubakar speaking at an ADC event in Abuja

Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has outlined a series of electoral and economic reforms he says he would pursue if elected president in 2027.

Atiku made the commitments on Thursday in Abuja while speaking at the ADC national headquarters during an address marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.

He said improving the credibility of elections would be a priority under his proposed administration, with plans to strengthen the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and ensure that results from polling units are published promptly.

The former vice president also pledged to prosecute individuals involved in vote buying or the manipulation of election results, regardless of their political affiliation.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, Atiku urged Nigerians to take steps to protect their votes and resist intimidation. He also advised voters to examine the candidates and their programmes carefully, arguing that campaign promises should be backed by measurable plans.

“The coming election offers us a peaceful way to choose our course. This country is yours,” he said.

Turning to the economy, Atiku promised to pursue policies aimed at making food, petrol and electricity more affordable, while improving healthcare, education and transportation.

He also listed insecurity, unemployment and transparency in public spending among the issues his proposed administration would address.

On petrol, Atiku proposed a budgeted and capped subsidy for products refined locally, including petrol from modular refineries, while excluding imported fuel from the arrangement.

He said the proposed framework would help lower the pump price of petrol for consumers.

“We will publish the costs, independently audit the payments and cut government waste to help fund the programme,” he stated.

Atiku also raised concerns over the application of the law in some cases, citing the detention of Sheikh Sani Khalifa Zaria and Malam Nasir El-Rufai as examples he said raised questions about due process.

He further maintained that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s right to appeal his conviction should be respected.

The ADC presidential candidate called on Nigerians to demand greater accountability from elected officials, particularly in relation to government budgets, project implementation and governance.

He said his proposed administration would prioritise economic relief, public safety, job creation and the protection of democratic institutions.

‘Lagos Traffic Is Not the Problem, It’s a Lifestyle’ — APC Governorship Candidate Hamzat Says

‘Lagos Traffic Is Not the Problem, It’s a Lifestyle’ — APC Governorship Candidate Hamzat Says

Lagos State Deputy Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Obafemi Hamzat, has described the city’s perennial traffic congestion as a “lifestyle”, saying the experience has also contributed to the growth of Lagos’ creative industry.

Hamzat made the remarks on Friday while speaking at PODFEST Naija, a gathering of podcasters, storytellers and other creatives in Lagos.

Reflecting on the city’s traffic, crowds and fast-paced environment, Hamzat said the experiences had become part of Lagos’ identity and had also created an audience for content creators.

“Anyone who has crossed Third Mainland Bridge at 6pm knows that Lagos traffic is not the problem, it is just a lifestyle,” Hamzat said.

He said many Lagos residents consume podcasts, music and other forms of entertainment while commuting through some of the city’s busiest routes.

“In fact, I suspect that many of us in this room, we produce things that are consumed, episode by episode, between Ojota and Obalende,” he said.

“So in a way, traffic has been a patron of your industry. So you must celebrate traffic. That’s why we are Lagos.”

Hamzat also said Lagos’ distinctive character had provided inspiration for artists, writers, filmmakers and other creatives.

He noted that the city was increasingly telling its own story through its creative community, including podcasters, filmmakers, musicians, writers, designers, developers and entrepreneurs.

The deputy governor also urged creatives to develop sustainable business models, arguing that having a large audience does not automatically translate into a viable business.

“A podcast with a million listeners and no business model is just a hobby with good microphone,” he said.

Hamzat said the Lagos State Government was supporting ideas and research within the creative and innovation ecosystem, claiming that the state was funding at least 90 research and development projects.

“Gone are the years of great ideas and no funding,” he said.

He also linked safety and liberty to creativity, saying people are more able to create and tell stories when they feel secure.

Hamzat said Lagos was currently the safest state in Nigeria, adding that maintaining security comes at a significant cost. That statement was presented as his assessment during the event.

“Creativity flourishes best when people feel safe,” he said.

“For us in Lagos, safety and liberty guarantees remain a matter of right.”

The APC governorship candidate also urged Nigerians to reconnect with their cultural identity, arguing that culture remains important to the country’s development.

“One of the challenges for us as Africans, as black people, is that we have forgotten our culture,” he said.

“The truth is, we will not prosper — it’s not a curse — if we don’t deal with our culture.”

Hamzat’s comments come as he prepares for the 2027 Lagos governorship election, where he will represent the APC alongside deputy governorship candidate Damilola Sonayon-James.

Sowore Returns to Nigeria, Resumes 2027 Presidential Campaign

African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has returned to Nigeria from the United States as he prepares to resume campaign activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Sowore’s return was announced in a statement issued on Sunday, September 27, 2026, following his visit to the United States, where he reunited with his family and held engagements with Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters, activists and other stakeholders.

According to the statement, Sowore also participated in a solidarity march for Palestine in New York and continued his advocacy for the participation of Nigerians living abroad in the country’s electoral process.

The AAC candidate has said that, if elected in 2027, his administration would pursue the implementation of diaspora voting.

Sowore is expected to proceed to Abuja after arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. According to the statement, he is also expected to continue attending court proceedings relating to the cybercrime case instituted against him by the State Security Service in 2025.

AAC Lagos Chairman Clarifies: Some-Fun Remains Lagos West Senatorial Candidate

The Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Lagos State, Comrade Samson Olanrewaju, has clarified that Alfred O. Some-Fun remains the party’s candidate for the Lagos West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

Olanrewaju reached out to Shemariah Media to clarify reports that circulated following the leakage of an internal communication concerning the suspension and withdrawal of Some-Fun’s candidacy.

According to the Lagos AAC Chairman, the communication was from an internal candidates’ group and had not been authorised by the Lagos State leadership for public circulation or treated as a final decision on Some-Fun’s candidacy.

He explained that the information subsequently circulated outside the group was therefore not an authorised final position of the Lagos State leadership.

Olanrewaju’s clarification establishes that Some-Fun continues to hold the AAC ticket for the Lagos West Senatorial District.

The clarification follows an earlier report suggesting that Some-Fun had been suspended and his candidacy withdrawn, which generated discussions about his status within the party.

In a separate communication previously circulated by the AAC Lagos West chapter, the chapter also stated that the circulated suspension and withdrawal publication should not be regarded as the official position of the party pending clarification through the appropriate structures, while indicating that Some-Fun remained the AAC Lagos West candidate.

The latest clarification from the Lagos State Chairman further addresses the controversy and provides the party’s position as communicated directly to Shemariah Media.

Shemariah Media understands that the earlier communication should therefore not be treated as a final withdrawal of Some-Fun’s candidacy, following the clarification from the Lagos State party leadership.

AAC Lagos West Chapter Disowns Circulated Suspension Notice, Says Some-Fun Remains Candidate

AAC Lagos West press release disclaiming circulated suspension of Some-Fun

The Lagos West Senatorial District chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has distanced itself from a recently circulated publication announcing the suspension of Comrade Alfred O. Some-Fun and the withdrawal of his candidacy for the Lagos West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a press release signed by Comr. Ayinde Olawale, Deputy Chairman of the Lagos West Senatorial District of the AAC, the chapter said the circulated publication should not be regarded as an official position or communication of the party pending proper clarification and confirmation through its appropriate structures.

The chapter advised members of the public, party members, supporters, candidates and other stakeholders to disregard any unverified information concerning the purported suspension or withdrawal of Some-Fun’s candidacy until an official statement is issued by the duly authorised party leadership.

The statement further maintained that Some-Fun remains the AAC candidate for the Lagos West Senatorial District for the 2027 general election, pending any duly authorised communication through the party’s appropriate channels.

The Lagos West chapter said the AAC remains committed to due process, internal party procedures, discipline, transparency, accountability and respect for the established structures of the party.

It also urged party members, supporters and members of the public to rely solely on official communications from the appropriate party authorities and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of creating confusion, misunderstanding or division.

“Any further clarification, where necessary, will be communicated through the appropriate official channels,” the statement said.

The development comes after a separate statement purportedly announcing the immediate suspension of Some-Fun and withdrawal of his candidacy was circulated publicly.

The latest press release, however, says that publication should not be treated as an official communication pending clarification through the AAC’s authorised structures.

Peter Obi Defends Wife’s Luxury Hermès Bag, Says Her Spending Is Her Business

Peter Obi responds to controversy over his wife’s Hermès handbag

Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi has responded to criticism over his wife Margaret Obi’s appearance with a luxury Hermès handbag, saying her personal spending should not be used to question his record on public accountability.

The controversy followed a photograph of Margaret Obi carrying what was identified as a Hermès Kelly 35 Malachite handbag.

According to the information provided about the bag, it is listed on the Hermès website at £131,938.81, which would amount to roughly ₦237 million based on the exchange rate referenced in the report.

The sighting sparked reactions from some Nigerians, including media aide to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, as well as media personality Daddy Freeze and other social media users who questioned the apparent cost of the handbag in relation to Obi’s public image and statements about living modestly.

Responding to the criticism during an interview with Adeola Fayehun, Obi said his wife’s personal finances and lifestyle should be separated from his management of public resources.

“When I was governor, whatever she had didn’t affect me because, one, I don’t have office of First Lady,” Obi said.

He explained that his wife has her own money and argued that she should be able to decide how to spend it, provided the money does not come from public funds.

“And she has her own money. So if she has her own money and wants to buy an expensive watch, that’s her own. I’m not going to do that. It’s not my business,” he said.

Obi further maintained that his concern is ensuring that public funds are not used to finance his wife’s lifestyle.

“I’m managing public money as long as the life she lives does not in any way the bills are not paid for public money,” he said.

He also said that his personal preferences should not determine how other people choose to live, noting that while he does not personally celebrate birthdays, he would still attend another person’s celebration if invited.

“I don’t celebrate birthdays, for example. I’m not into celebration. But I can’t stop other people from celebrating,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor maintained that his wife’s lifestyle would not conflict with his interests as long as it is funded with her own money and does not involve public resources.

The comments come amid continued public scrutiny of Obi’s personal lifestyle and his political messaging around reducing the cost of governance and ensuring accountability in the management of public funds.
