UI Graduate Questions Quality of English Proficiency Letter, Challenges Extra Payment
A University of Ibadan graduate has expressed frustration over the quality of an official English Language Proficiency letter issued by the institution, questioning why she should pay an additional fee to obtain a clearer copy.
In a post on her page, the alumna criticised the university’s document production process, questioning whether the poor quality resulted from printing or scanning. She called for accountability, arguing that graduates should not have to pay again for a document that should have been properly produced in the first place.
While acknowledging the institution’s reputation, she urged the University of Ibadan to improve its administrative processes, stressing that obtaining official documents should not become an unnecessary source of frustration for graduates.
Her complaint has sparked renewed conversations about service delivery, accountability and the responsibility of public institutions to maintain acceptable standards in routine administrative operations.
The issue raises a question about the cost of administrative errors and who should bear the burden of correcting them: should graduates pay again to obtain a legible official document, or should the institution ensure that documents meet the required standard before issuing them?
