Tinubu Celebrates Shettima at 60, Praises His Service to Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated Vice President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, describing him as a trusted ally and partner whose service to Borno State and Nigeria has been marked by commitment, courage and sacrifice.

In a message issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Tinubu congratulated Shettima and extended his goodwill to the Vice President’s wife, Nana, his children, family and political associates.

The President highlighted Shettima’s career in banking and his years in public service, first as Governor of Borno State and later as Vice President of Nigeria.

According to Tinubu, Shettima has demonstrated diligence, compassion and a strong commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians in both positions.

He also commended the Vice President for his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress and his support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu particularly praised Shettima’s role as Chairman of the National Economic Council, saying he has provided purposeful leadership in coordinating economic policies and promoting collaboration between the Federal Government and sub-national governments.

The President further described Shettima as a strong advocate of constitutional governance, democratic institutions, dialogue and consultation, noting that his contributions have strengthened the administration’s efforts towards good governance.

Tinubu said the Vice President’s loyalty, wisdom and sense of duty had remained invaluable to the administration, while thanking him for his continued support and partnership in delivering the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He expressed confidence that their continued collaboration would contribute to making meaningful progress towards building the Nigeria they envision.

The President, on behalf of the Federal Government, wished Shettima many more years of purposeful service to the country and prayed for God’s guidance, protection, wisdom and good health for the Vice President.

Shettima, who turns 60 on September 2, 2026, served as Governor of Borno State before becoming Vice President of Nigeria in 2023.
