Nigerian Men Use Jarvis’ Appearance to Debate Beauty, Marriage and Cheating

Two Nigerian men have sparked an online debate after using Nigerian content creator and streamer Jarvis as an example while sharing their opinions on physical appearance, marriage and infidelity.

One of the men, identified by his social media handle, @Prince_dc21, said he would expect his future wife to continue taking care of her appearance after marriage.

According to him, physical beauty would be one of the major reasons for choosing a wife, followed by character.

“To any girl that will marry me, have it in mind that the NO1 reason I’m marrying is because of your beauty, followed by character,” he wrote.

He went on to warn that he would consider ending the marriage if his wife stopped taking care of herself.

“If we get married and you stop looking beautiful for me and taking proper care of yourself I swear I’ll divorce you immediately,” he stated.

The man also said he would expect his wife to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including going to the gym and eating healthy meals.

He further argued that pregnancy should not be used as an excuse for neglecting one’s appearance, saying he would rather consider taking a second wife or getting a divorce.

Prince also referred to Jarvis and her husband, Peller, while explaining his position.

“I can’t be mumu like the likes of Peller and Jarvis,” he wrote.

He then claimed that some women stop taking care of their appearance after marriage but later resume doing so after separating from their husbands.

In a separate post, another Nigerian man, @AndyjnrUmaru, shared a similar view while also using Jarvis as an example.

“This is very unfair to every man,” he wrote.

He argued that some women spend years maintaining their appearance while trying to attract a partner but become less concerned about their looks after getting married.

“A woman will always keep herself pretty and fit all her life to get the man she wants, then immediately she gets married she becomes careless about herself, add weight, barb hair, or stop being herself anymore,” he said.

According to him, such changes are sometimes followed by women blaming their husbands when they cheat.

However, Andy made it clear that he does not support infidelity.

“Then blame men for cheating. Well, I don’t support cheating, but this is unfair,” he added.

The comments have generated mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing that both men and women should continue to make efforts to look after themselves after marriage.

Others criticised the views, arguing that physical changes can naturally occur after marriage due to pregnancy, childbirth, ageing, health challenges and other circumstances.

The discussion has also reignited a broader debate about physical attraction in marriage and whether changes in a partner’s appearance should have any influence on commitment or faithfulness.

While the two men presented their views as personal opinions, their use of Jarvis as an example has brought further attention to the ongoing conversation about beauty standards, marriage and relationships.
